We are delighted to be able to announce the opening of our new store in Grimsby. It opened on 25th September and you can read all about it here and hear a small snippet from a radio interview with BBC Humberside.

The brainchild of Lance Haggith, winner of the 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero award, the new store is part of a nationwide chain that has received critical acclaim.  Selling sports clothing and equipment at hugely discounted rates, it aims to offer young people the kit they need to discover and fulfill their sporting ambition and potential, whatever their background, ability or disability. In addition to making often inaccessible sports items more affordable, the brand also reinvests all profit made back into the community and grass-root sports. They encourage kids to try new activities, help talented sporting youngsters excel and provide volunteering opportunities in store for disadvantaged and disabled youngsters, offering vital work experience.

The shop in Grimsby is the first for the region but the charity has already got underway with its mission of helping youth in the local community. Park Avenue School located has recently received a donation of gym equipment. The school, which previously had no sports facilities can now offer its pupils a lifeline, involving them in sporting activities, building confidence and improving physical and mental wellbeing.

The brand relies on clothing and footwear donations from leading brands as well as second-hand quality sports clothing which enables them to pass on such incredible bargains. The new store will launch a new concept from its Grimsby base which will see every item being sold for £5 or less.

Lance Haggith, founder of the Sports Traider charity said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be opening in Freshney Place. Sports Traider is completely dedicated to the local community, giving often disadvantaged youth an opportunity to learn sport and develop social skills which can help to reshape their lives.

“We firmly believe that community sport is an essential part of society and should be available for all – never an inaccessible luxury. We have opened shops up and down the country and all the communities we operate in face similar challenges. It really is about creating a level playing field, we want all kids to have the same chances –that’s what we’re about. So far everyone we’ve met in and around Grimsby has been terrific, we’re really looking forward to getting integrated here and helping a much as we can.”

Amanda Austin, centre director at Freshney Place said: “When Lance first approached us about Sports Traider coming to Grimsby we didn’t hesitate to help. The charity has an outstanding reputation and will provide youth in our local community with some valuable support and investment in a sporting context. We anticipate the shop will be very popular and look forward to playing a part in this fabulous venture.”
